Northeast Region Logs Nation’s Tightest Apartment Occupancy link

  • Northeast markets achieved the highest apartment occupancy rates in the U.S. at the end of 2023, reaching an average of 96.3%. This was nearly a full percentage point higher than the next closest region, highlighting the area's tight housing market.

  • Stable demand drivers and minimal supply pressures have kept occupancy rates consistently high across the Northeast. Cities like Utica, Rochester, New York, Manchester, and Springfield saw occupancy rates of 97% or greater, indicating robust market health.

  • The Watertown-Fort Drum, NY metro area was an exception with a lower occupancy rate of 92.3%. This outlier demonstrates the varied performance within the region, despite the overall strong market conditions.
